These Terms of Use, referred to as the “Terms,” govern access to and use of the Know Your Ride website located at knowyourride.org and the Know Your Ride - Safe 10 mobile app.

These Terms apply to all publicly available webpages, interactive tools, educational materials, databases, guides, checklists, research materials, videos, graphics, downloads, forms, links, and other content or functionality made available through the website.

The website and all associated website content are referred to as the “Website.” The Know Your Ride - Safe 10 mobile application is referred to as the “App.” The Website and App, including their associated content and features, are collectively referred to as the “Services.”

By accessing, browsing, using, downloading from, interacting with, or submitting information through the Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Services.

Know Your Ride is a youth-led educational public-safety initiative operated as program of Care Forward Foundation, a Non Profit Organization.

In these Terms:

• “Know Your Ride,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Care Forward Foundation and the Know Your Ride program.
• “You” and “user” refer to anyone who accesses or uses the Services.
• “Content” means all information, text, tools, results, questions, databases, graphics, photographs, videos, downloads, research, interviews, links, and other materials available through the Services.
• “Protected Parties” means Care Forward Foundation, Know Your Ride, and their current and former directors, officers, founders, youth leaders, volunteers, personnel, contractors, advisors, contributors, licensors, and authorized representatives.

For claims arising solely from an entity’s appearance, quotation, interview, link, listing, contribution, sponsorship acknowledgment, source material, or alleged association with the Website, “Protected Parties” also includes the applicable featured or referenced entity and its personnel.

A third party is not released from responsibility for its own separate products, services, events, premises, representations, legal obligations, or independent misconduct merely because it appears on the Website.

These Terms apply to the public Know Your Ride Website, the App, and associated materials that link to these Terms.

Separate programs, events, research activities, contracts, releases, surveys, or services may be subject to additional terms, notices, permissions, or agreements.

If specific terms apply to a particular activity, those specific terms control for that activity to the extent they conflict with these general Terms.

The Services provide general educational information concerning topics that may include:

• traditional bicycles;
• electric-assisted bicycles;
• e-bikes;
• electric two-wheelers;
• vehicle features;
• motors, pedals, throttles, speed, and wattage;
• vehicle labels and manufacturer descriptions;
• batteries and charging;
• helmets and equipment;
• route and riding considerations;
• school and family conversations;
• purchasing questions;
• laws, rules, and policies;
• community education;
• public-safety resources;
• research and pilot findings; and
• rider and parent readiness.

The Services are intended to support learning, encourage questions, and help users locate relevant sources.

They are not intended to make decisions for users or replace individualized investigation, professional judgment, adult supervision, practical training, manufacturer instructions, or official government guidance.

The Services provide educational and safety tools. They do not replace traffic laws, rider judgment, or parent/guardian supervision where appropriate. Know Your Ride does not guarantee that riding is safe or risk-free or that a bike, e-bike, or e-moto is legally permitted in every location. Riders remain responsible for following applicable laws, signs, rules, and safe-riding practices.

The Services do not provide and must not be treated as providing:

• legal advice;
• medical advice;
• mental-health advice;
• engineering advice;
• mechanical advice;
• electrical advice;
• battery inspection;
• fire-prevention certification;
• insurance advice;
• financial advice;
• product certification;
• professional training;
• individualized risk assessment;
• emergency instructions;
• law-enforcement guidance;
• school-policy approval; or
• any other regulated or professional service.

No communication with Know Your Ride creates an attorney-client, physician-patient, therapist-patient, mechanic-customer, engineer-client, insurer-insured, fiduciary, advisory, consulting, supervisory, or other professional relationship.

Questions requiring professional judgment should be directed to a qualified professional authorized to provide that service.

Know Your Ride is not a:

• federal, state, county, or municipal agency;
• court;
• legislature;
• law-enforcement agency;
• fire department;
• emergency service;
• transportation authority;
• school or school district;
• park or trail authority;
• licensing authority;
• vehicle-classification authority;
• inspection agency;
• product-testing laboratory;
• standards organization;
• manufacturer;
• retailer; or
• insurance provider.

Nothing on the Services constitutes an official interpretation, determination, approval, authorization, certification, ruling, citation, exemption, or enforcement decision.

A user may not present Content as an official statement issued by a government authority, school, law-enforcement agency, manufacturer, standards body, or other third party.

You are solely responsible for determining whether Content is accurate, current, complete, relevant, and appropriate for your circumstances.

Before making a riding, purchasing, charging, maintenance, supervision, route, school, equipment, or legal-compliance decision, you must independently verify relevant information through sources such as:

• the physical vehicle and its label;
• the manufacturer;
• the owner’s manual;
• an authorized retailer;
• a qualified mechanic or technician;
• official federal, state, county, and municipal sources;
• law enforcement;
• a school or school district;
• a park, trail, or property operator;
• a transportation authority;
• an insurer;
• a qualified attorney; and
• any other authority applicable to the specific activity.

You must not rely exclusively on the Services when making a decision that may affect health, safety, legal compliance, property, insurance, education, or another person.

Laws, regulations, ordinances, policies, product specifications, manufacturer statements, school rules, park rules, trail rules, property restrictions, rebate programs, and safety guidance may change without notice.

Rules may also vary according to:

• location;
• rider age;
• vehicle design;
• vehicle configuration;
• motor power;
• assisted or powered speed;
• throttle operation;
• pedal functionality;
• licensing or registration status;
• route;
• property ownership;
• school policy;
• time of day; and
• other facts.

A summary in the Services may become outdated, may omit an exception, or may not apply to your circumstances.

Know Your Ride has no obligation to monitor every legal, regulatory, manufacturer, or policy change or to update Content immediately after a change occurs.

The Services are not an emergency service, emergency-reporting system, crisis line, law-enforcement reporting portal, school reporting system, insurance reporting system, or incident-investigation service.

Do not use the Services, forms, social-media pages, or email to report:

• an emergency;
• a crash requiring immediate help;
• a serious injury;
• a battery fire;
• an active threat;
• abuse;
• a crime in progress;
• a missing person;
• an urgent medical issue; or
• immediate danger.

For an emergency, call 911 or contact the appropriate local emergency authority.

Sending information to Know Your Ride does not notify emergency services, law enforcement, a school, a parent, a property owner, an insurer, a manufacturer, or any organization mentioned on the Services.

Know Your Ride does not guarantee that any message will be read, reviewed, forwarded, investigated, or answered within a particular period.

Bicycling, operating an electric two-wheeler, using roads and trails, purchasing equipment, charging batteries, maintaining vehicles, and supervising riders involve inherent and other risks.

Risks may include:

• falls;
• collisions;
• loss of control;
• rider error;
• excessive speed;
• limited visibility;
• traffic;
• pedestrians;
• animals;
• road hazards;
• weather;
• mechanical failure;
• brake failure;
• tire failure;
• electrical failure;
• battery overheating;
• battery fire;
• charger failure;
• product defects;
• improper maintenance;
• improper modification;
• theft;
• vandalism;
• property damage;
• burns;
• serious bodily injury;
• permanent disability;
• death;
• fines;
• citations;
• impoundment;
• insurance consequences;
• school discipline; and
• loss of access to roads, trails, campuses, or property.

By using Content to inform a decision, you acknowledge that the Services cannot identify, evaluate, disclose, or eliminate every risk.

You voluntarily accept responsibility for your decisions and for the foreseeable and unforeseeable consequences of those decisions, except to the extent applicable law provides otherwise.

The Services include information relevant to students and younger riders.

Children under 13 must not directly submit personal information through the Services.

A user under 18 should use the Services with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian.

Parents and legal guardians remain responsible for decisions involving minors, including:

• whether the minor may ride;
• which vehicle may be used;
• whether the vehicle is appropriate;
• helmet and equipment use;
• rider training;
• route selection;
• speed expectations;
• passenger rules;
• charging;
• maintenance;
• supervision;
• school compliance;
• check-in expectations; and
• emergency planning.

No assessment, checklist, classification, result, or guide in the Services establishes that a minor is mature, trained, legally eligible, properly supervised, or ready to ride independently.

Know Your Ride does not assume custody, control, supervision, or responsibility for any minor.

The Website may provide Bike Check and other interactive educational tools.

These tools process user-selected answers through preset educational logic and display an informational result.

Results depend on the information entered and may be incomplete or incorrect if:

• the user provides inaccurate information;
• the user misunderstands a question;
• product information is unavailable;
• the manufacturer’s description is incomplete;
• the vehicle has been modified;
• a setting has been changed;
• software has changed vehicle behavior;
• labels are absent, altered, incorrect, or counterfeit;
• the model has multiple configurations;
• the tool does not ask about a legally relevant fact;
• the vehicle performs differently from its description; or
• an applicable law or policy has changed.

A result is not:

• an official vehicle classification;
• a legal opinion;
• a certification of compliance;
• a safety certification;
• a mechanical inspection;
• an electrical inspection;
• a product approval;
• authorization to ride;
• school approval;
• trail approval;
• insurance approval;
• evidence of rider competence; or
• a guarantee of safety or legality.

Users must independently confirm all relevant information before acting on a result.

Vehicle classification can depend on multiple facts, including design, functionality, speed, motor output, throttle behavior, pedal operation, software settings, and applicable law.

Marketing names, product appearance, seller statements, and user descriptions may not accurately establish legal classification.

Terms such as “bike,” “e-bike,” “electric bike,” “electric motorcycle,” “e-moto,” “low assist,” “class,” “off-road,” “race mode,” “sport mode,” or similar labels may be used differently by manufacturers, sellers, users, and government authorities.

Know Your Ride does not physically inspect vehicles and cannot determine whether:

• a label is accurate;
• pedals are functional;
• a motor has been replaced;
• a controller has been altered;
• speed limitations have been removed;
• a throttle has been added or changed;
• software settings have been modified;
• a vehicle complies with law; or
• a particular vehicle matches an online product listing.

The person controlling, purchasing, maintaining, modifying, supervising, or operating a vehicle is responsible for verifying its actual condition and legal status.

The Website may contain a Bike Catalog, database, comparison, model listing, manufacturer description, image, source link, or other product information.

Know Your Ride does not manufacture, design, import, distribute, sell, assemble, inspect, certify, approve, warrant, service, repair, recall, or insure listed products.

Product information may differ according to model year, configuration, region, seller, software version, battery, motor, controller, optional accessory, or later modification.

Inclusion in the Website does not mean that Know Your Ride has:

• tested the product;
• verified every specification;
• confirmed legal classification;
• confirmed compliance with safety standards;
• approved it for minors;
• approved it for school use;
• approved it for any route;
• determined that it is free from defects; or
• endorsed the manufacturer or seller.

The absence of a product does not mean the product is unlawful, unsafe, defective, unsuitable, or disfavored.

Users must verify product information directly through the physical product, manufacturer, qualified professionals, and applicable official sources.

The Website may identify or link to laws, local rules, school policies, routes, parks, trails, roads, paths, maps, transportation resources, or other place-based information.

This information is not permission to enter, ride, park, charge, or operate a vehicle at any location.

Conditions may change because of:

• construction;
• closures;
• weather;
• traffic;
• school operations;
• property restrictions;
• emergencies;
• events;
• trail damage;
• enforcement decisions;
• temporary rules; or
• other circumstances.

Know Your Ride does not inspect routes or monitor current physical conditions.

No route, map, local-source page, or location reference is a representation that a location is open, accessible, lawful, suitable, well-maintained, supervised, or safe.

Users are responsible for checking current conditions and obtaining all required permissions.

Content concerning helmets, brakes, lights, tires, locks, visibility, fit, maintenance, or equipment is general educational information.

It does not substitute for:

• manufacturer instructions;
• a professional fitting;
• a qualified mechanical inspection;
• repair;
• maintenance;
• product replacement;
• safety training; or
• a recall check.

Know Your Ride does not guarantee that any helmet, lock, light, brake, tire, charger, battery, protective product, or other equipment will prevent injury, theft, fire, or loss.

A checklist cannot identify every defect, hidden condition, installation error, counterfeit product, worn component, or compatibility issue.

The owner, adult supervisor, and rider are responsible for confirming that the vehicle and all equipment are properly selected, fitted, installed, maintained, and used.

Lithium-ion batteries, electrical systems, chargers, outlets, extension cords, and related equipment may present risks of fire, explosion, burns, toxic exposure, electrical shock, property damage, serious injury, or death.

Content concerning battery or charging practices is educational only.

Know Your Ride does not:

• inspect batteries;
• inspect chargers;
• inspect electrical systems;
• confirm compatibility;
• approve repair methods;
• identify hidden damage;
• conduct fire-risk assessments;
• certify storage locations; or
• provide emergency fire response.

Users must follow manufacturer instructions, applicable fire codes, product recalls, qualified professional advice, and emergency-authority instructions.

Do not charge, store, use, repair, open, modify, or dispose of a battery based solely on Content.

Know Your Ride and the Protected Parties are not responsible for fire, electrical, battery, charging, storage, repair, disposal, or property-related harm resulting from user decisions or third-party products, except to the extent liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

The Website may provide questions to ask before purchase, product considerations, retailer links, manufacturer links, rebate information, pricing information, or examples of equipment.

These resources are provided for convenience and education only.

Know Your Ride does not guarantee:

• product availability;
• rebate eligibility;
• rebate funding;
• price;
• product authenticity;
• seller reliability;
• warranty coverage;
• compatibility;
• product performance;
• product safety;
• return rights;
• legal classification; or
• suitability for a particular rider.

A retailer, manufacturer, government program, or other third party may change its products, prices, conditions, eligibility rules, or terms without notice.

Unless expressly disclosed, a reference to a product, manufacturer, seller, rebate, or service is not a paid endorsement.

Users are responsible for conducting their own research and reviewing all applicable transaction terms.

Parent Readiness assessments, family agreements, checklists, conversation guides, scores, summaries, and related materials are educational discussion tools.

They are not:

• medical evaluations;
• psychological assessments;
• legal evaluations;
• professional risk assessments;
• licensing examinations;
• rider certifications;
• parenting evaluations;
• school approvals; or
• guarantees of readiness.

A score, category, recommendation, or completed checklist does not establish that:

• a rider is safe;
• a rider is unsafe;
• a parent has satisfied a legal duty;
• a parent has failed a legal duty;
• a vehicle is lawful;
• a family is prepared for every situation;
• a school must allow the vehicle;
• independent riding is appropriate; or
• injury or misconduct will not occur.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for all decisions concerning minors.

The Website may provide materials for schools, school districts, PTAs, educators, youth programs, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, or community groups.

Unless a separate written agreement expressly states otherwise, the materials are optional educational resources.

Use or distribution of the materials does not:

• create a partnership;
• create an agency relationship;
• transfer supervisory duties;
• transfer legal compliance duties;
• establish school approval;
• establish district approval;
• establish government approval;
• establish that materials satisfy local policy;
• make Know Your Ride responsible for implementation; or
• make Know Your Ride responsible for user conduct.

Organizations using Website Content are responsible for their own legal review, accessibility review, policy review, staff training, supervision, distribution decisions, and communications.

Materials must not be presented as an official school, government, or law-enforcement requirement unless the applicable authority has independently adopted them.

The Website may present pilot findings, survey summaries, assessments, educational observations, reports, or program-evaluation materials.

• participation is voluntary;

Statements made by an interview participant or featured person are that speaker’s statements and do not necessarily represent the views of:

• the speaker’s employer;
• a school;

• a partner;
• a sponsor; or
• any other featured entity.

Titles and affiliations are provided for context and may later change.

A person’s appearance does not establish endorsement, sponsorship, approval, continuing involvement, or agreement with every Website statement.

Know Your Ride may edit media for length, clarity, accessibility, presentation, or formatting while seeking to preserve its intended meaning.

Third-party services are independently controlled and may have separate:

• terms;

• advertising;
• account requirements; and
• content standards.

Know Your Ride does not control or guarantee the accuracy, legality, availability, accessibility, privacy, security, completeness, or timeliness of third-party services.

A link or embed is provided for convenience or education and does not itself constitute endorsement, approval, sponsorship, or partnership.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Know Your Ride and the Protected Parties are not responsible for harm arising from a user’s interaction with an independent third party.

A city, county, school, school district, police department, public agency, nonprofit organization, business, manufacturer, retailer, funder, sponsor, interview participant, or other entity may be referenced, quoted, thanked, linked, listed, or featured on the Website.

Unless an authorized written agreement expressly states otherwise, this does not mean that the entity:

• operates the Website;
• controls Website Content;
• reviewed every Website page;
• verified every statement;
• approved every tool result;
• supervises users;
• assumes responsibility for user decisions;

• supervise a rider;

• contact a parent, school, or authority;
• investigate a report; or
• prevent an injury, violation, or loss.

Use of the Services does not create a special relationship or increase any duty beyond duties that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Users may be able to submit messages, questions, feedback, corrections, partnership inquiries, stories, photographs, videos, quotations, or other materials.

Do not submit:

• emergency information;
• threats;
• reports requiring immediate action;
• medical records;
• confidential school records;
• protected student records;
• financial-account information;
• passwords;
• government identifiers;
• precise home addresses;
• names or contact information of minors;
• photographs of minors without authorization;
• private incident records;
• license-plate numbers;
• defamatory allegations;
• content belonging to another person;
• unlawful material;
• malicious code; or
• information you lack authority to disclose.

You represent that information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have all necessary rights and permissions.

Know Your Ride is not required to publish, investigate, retain, return, forward, or respond to a submission.

We may delete, restrict, redact, preserve, report, or decline to review submitted material where reasonably necessary for safety, security, privacy, legal compliance, or Website operation.

You retain ownership of original material you submit.

When you voluntarily submit material for publication, education, research, program development, presentation, or promotional use, you grant Know Your Ride and Care Forward Foundation a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to:

• review;
• copy;
• store;
• edit;
• format;
• translate;
• excerpt;
• publish;
• display;
• distribute;
• archive; and
• use the material for the purpose for which it was submitted.

This license includes use through the Website, educational materials, reports, presentations, events, grant materials, and organizational communications.

You represent that the exercise of this license will not infringe another person’s copyright, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights.

Know Your Ride will seek appropriate permission before intentionally publishing personally identifying material concerning a minor.

A removal request may not affect materials already printed, distributed, archived, presented, lawfully shared, or incorporated into aggregated or de-identified findings.

You may not use the Services to:

• violate a law;
• encourage dangerous or unlawful conduct;
• evade vehicle restrictions;
• bypass speed limitations;
• facilitate unauthorized modifications;
• harm or exploit a minor;
• impersonate a person or organization;
• falsely claim partnership or endorsement;
• submit false or misleading information;
• harass or threaten another person;
• infringe intellectual-property rights;
• invade privacy;
• introduce malware;
• interfere with Services operation;
• gain unauthorized access;
• scrape or systematically extract Services data without permission;
• overload Services infrastructure;
• collect information about other users;
• use Content deceptively;
• remove legal notices or attribution;
• create a competing database through systematic copying; or
• use the Services in a way reasonably likely to expose users, the organization, or the public to harm.

We may restrict access, preserve evidence, or refer conduct to an appropriate authority when reasonably necessary.

The Know Your Ride Website, App, and their qualifying original content, including original text, graphics, illustrations, layouts, educational presentations, compilations, and creative arrangements, are owned by or licensed to Care Forward Foundation, except where otherwise identified.

P-7-28™ and P20-T20-P28™ are names claimed as trademarks by Care Forward Foundation in connection with Know Your Ride educational and public-safety materials. The use of the ™ symbol does not represent federal trademark registration.

Copyright claims apply only to qualifying original expression, including original explanatory language, graphics, illustrations, and creative selection and arrangement. Care Forward Foundation does not claim ownership of public laws, government standards, facts, e-bike classifications, regulatory definitions, methods, systems, or public-domain materials.

Third-party names, logos, photographs, trademarks, seals, and other materials remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation, or joint ownership unless expressly stated.

For materials containing artificial-intelligence-generated elements, any copyright claim is limited to qualifying human-authored text, selection, arrangement, branding, editing, and modifications.

No ownership rights are transferred through access to the website or its materials.

“Know Your Ride,” related logos, slogans, designs, and program identifiers may function as trademarks or service marks of Care Forward Foundation or their respective owners.

Third-party names, logos, government seals, school names, product names, and platform names belong to their respective owners.

Reference to a third-party mark is for identification or educational purposes and does not establish affiliation or endorsement.

You may not use Know Your Ride branding in a way likely to:

• cause confusion;
• imply sponsorship;
• imply official approval;
• suggest that an altered resource is official;
• misrepresent the origin of Content; or
• damage the reputation of Know Your Ride or Care Forward Foundation.

Know Your Ride respects intellectual-property rights.

A copyright owner or authorized representative who believes Website material infringes a copyright may send a notice to:

info@knowyourride.org

The notice should include:

• identification of the copyrighted work;
• identification and location of the challenged material;
• the complaining party’s contact information;
• a statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized;
• a statement that the information is accurate;
• a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the sender is authorized to act; and
• a physical or electronic signature.

Know Your Ride may remove or restrict access to challenged material while evaluating a complaint.

Submitting a knowingly false notice may result in legal liability.

This section does not represent that Know Your Ride has completed a statutory DMCA-agent registration. Any separate Copyright and DMCA Policy and any registration in the U.S. Copyright Office directory will control if applicable. The Copyright Office requires online service providers seeking relevant DMCA safe-harbor protection to publish agent information and register that agent with the Office. (U.S. Copyright Office)

Use of the Services is subject to the Know Your Ride Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains how information may be collected, used, disclosed, retained, and protected.

Users must not submit sensitive, confidential, emergency, or unnecessary personal information.

If these Terms and the Privacy Policy conflict regarding the handling of personal information, the Privacy Policy controls for that specific privacy issue.

Know Your Ride may modify, update, correct, remove, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any Content or feature at any time.

We do not guarantee that:

• the Services will always be available;
• Content will remain unchanged;
• every link will work;
• every page will display correctly;
• every feature will function on every device;
• errors will be corrected immediately;
• Content will be free from omissions;
• the Services will be free from harmful components;
• unauthorized access will never occur; or
• third-party services will remain available.

Users are responsible for maintaining appropriate security, backups, software, and device protections.

Know Your Ride is not responsible for losses caused by service interruptions, user devices, internet providers, third-party systems, or circumstances outside its reasonable control.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Know Your Ride does not assume a continuing duty to:

• monitor laws or rules;
• monitor manufacturer information;
• inspect products;
• identify recalls;
• monitor user conduct;
• supervise riders;
• investigate reports;
• update a person who previously viewed Content;
• warn every user of every risk;
• preserve every submission;
• respond to every inquiry;
• prevent third-party misconduct;
• ensure that users follow Services guidance; or
• take action based on information submitted through the Services.

A prior response, correction, update, or voluntary safety communication does not create a continuing obligation to provide similar assistance in the future.

Nothing in this section excludes a legal duty that cannot lawfully be disclaimed.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Know Your Ride, Care Forward Foundation, and the other Protected Parties from claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, penalties, losses, and reasonable legal expenses arising from:

• your unlawful use of the Services;
• your material violation of these Terms;
• information or material you submit;
• your infringement of another person’s rights;
• your unauthorized commercial use of Content;
• your false claim of endorsement, partnership, or authority;
• your alteration and redistribution of Content;
• your interference with Services operation; or
• your use of the Services to harm another person.

This section does not require you to indemnify a Protected Party for that party’s own fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or responsibility that cannot lawfully be transferred.

Know Your Ride may control the defense of a covered claim, and you agree to provide reasonable cooperation.

Know Your Ride may revise these Terms when Content, organizational operations, or legal requirements change.

The “Last Updated” date identifies the current published version.

Revised Terms apply prospectively from their stated effective or updated date unless applicable law requires otherwise.
